Dear Friends,

I hope you’ve been able to stay cool in this recent heat wave. The summer is almost half over, and that means the 41st District intern team has been hard at work in the community and researching legislation. In this newsletter, I’ve included a few updates on our intern program and what the team has been up to.

Our office’s community outreach includes meeting you at your doors and hosting various events, like Citizen Advisory Panels and community coffees. These events are meant to give you multiple means to connect with me and my office so you can make your opinions known, flag issues you’re experiencing, and keep updated on state happenings. This month, I’ve highlighted an upcoming town hall, the 4th Annual Heroes & Helicopters event that I co-host with Senator Laura Ellman, and my office’s monthly Coffee & Conversation.

Please drop me a note if there are other ways you’d like us to keep in touch and keep you informed about how you’re being represented in our state government. As always, don’t hesitate to let me know if my office and I can be of service to you and your family.

Sincerely,

Janet

Intern Updates

This summer marks the fifth year of my office’s summer internship program. Since we started the program in 2021, we’ve employed more than three dozen students, a number of whom have stayed with us during the school year and/or for multiple summers. Many of these talented individuals have graduated and gone to law and graduate schools, careers with the offices of other state and federal representatives, and key policy jobs at various state and federal agencies.

The 12 interns that are part of this year’s program have been hard at work researching the issues you brought to us during our office’s June Citizen Advisory Panels. While the research is generally in the early stages, we’re looking into areas like pay equity and transparency, consumer protection in tax filings, and air quality standards around school and residential areas. These topics came directly from constituents in our district, and we’re always grateful to the residents and community members who take the time to make these issues known.

For these internships, my office and I partner with schools in the district and also take applications for our intern program at the beginning of each year. If you or a student you know is interested, make sure to subscribe to this newsletter, where we send out a call for applications each January.

Town Hall with Legislators

Join me and some of my neighboring colleagues in the Illinois General Assembly for an in-person town hall to discuss the recently completed spring legislative session. From investments we’re making in education and health care to upcoming laws that create artificial intelligence safeguards and keep firearms out of the wrong hands, expect to have a far-reaching discussion on how your state legislature is working for you.

We look forward to featuring close-up experiences with trucks, emergency service vehicles, and other heavy machinery. Weather permitting, the event will include a medical helicopter landing at 12 PM.

Coffee & Conversation

Every month, I invite constituents to join me and members of my office for coffee and conversation at the 41st District office. We usually talk about legislation flowing through Springfield, work being done in our district office, and anything else on people’s minds. Please always feel free to drop by and chat or even just listen—this is always one of my favorite meetings because of the diversity of views represented and the opportunity for all to learn from new perspectives.
