Dear Friends,

I’m writing to you from Springfield, where my General Assembly colleagues and I are currently in the first week of this fall’s veto session. As the name suggests, these next few weeks give legislators a chance to override any vetoes that came from the Governor over the summer. There aren’t typically many vetoes issued, so the time is also an opportunity to work on bills that may need more attention or have some urgency behind them. We’ve spent a number of hours this week already, for example, working through mass transit, energy, and budget issues.

I’m optimistic that we’re working in a good direction in these areas. On transit, for example, your responses to our district’s community survey has helped me to be your voice, making sure that we see true and credible reform from transit agencies and that suburban areas like ours have fair representation on the transit governing boards. We’re also making good progress on the energy omnibus bill, which includes requirements for integrated resource plans to help communities like Naperville move to more sustainable energy sources.

There will be much more to report in the coming weeks as the work continues. In the meantime, please continue to reach out with your questions, concerns, and thoughts. One of the regular ways to do that is through our office’s monthly coffees–this month, we’re meeting this Saturday at the district office. We have many other events and happenings going on in October, and I hope to see you at one of these.

Sincerely,

Janet

Thank You to Our Intern Team

Once again this summer we had an amazing intern team! The interns did a particularly great job out in the community and at your doors, collecting your thoughts on issues like mass transit reform and funding. If you missed talking with them or have not seen our Flash Survey, you can still respond online.

Our team also attended many community events and facilitated district events. From these conversations and our district’s Citizen Advisory Panels, the intern team worked on researching numerous legislative ideas from constituents. We are now in the process of working with the legal team in Springfield to draft legislation that I will introduce throughout the next few months for the 2026 legislative session. Stay tuned for more details as those bills are filed.
